Business Insurance - Auto industry sees launch of own social network

The launch of the automotive industry's first social media website, Motor Tradebook, could herald an innovative new era for the sector.

By allowing products and services to be listed alongside vehicles through the site's 'stockbook' function, Motor Tradebook offers the opportunity for dealerships, suppliers and buyers to share information relevant to one another's interests.

This in turn aims to increase traffic to their respective websites, products and services. Current signed-up members have already seen increased website activity, according to Motor Tradebook's Alex Wright.

"Being able to post a product or service in one place and to have it distributed across many social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn greatly increases visibility," Wright explained.

He added that Motor Tradebook has "caught the imagination of the automotive industry".

Recent figures released by British Car Auctions, Europe's largest vehicle auction company, have confirmed that while the market is undergoing a seasonal slump in resale values, the actual volume of vehicles sold has gone up.
