Business Insurance - Car share schemes offer advantages for businesses, claims expert

Car sharing could offer a range of benefits for companies, an expert has claimed.

Sacha Billett, marketing manager at liftshare, argued that organisations, such as ones already offering company vehicles covered by business car insurance, could reduce parking and congestion problems through a lift-share scheme.

"Businesses expand - they move into nice new offices - but they find that the parking provision doesn't match the number of those driving to work," she explained.

Sharing a lift with colleagues could not only ease localised congestion but could help a company achieve its corporate social responsibility targets, Ms Billett added. This was particularly the case for many local authorities, which can now demand a green travel plan from businesses.

The Eco-Velocity event scheduled for September 8th to 11th will attempt to highlight to businesses and regular motorists the important role which motoring can play in helping to reduce overall carbon emissions. Among the vehicles showcased will be a regular diesel VW campervan equipped with the latest green technology making it a viable, eco-friendly modern car.
