Business Insurance - RHA praises OFT call for info on fuel pricing

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has welcomed the news the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is to examine evidence relating to the setting of petrol and diesel prices in the UK.

RHA chief executive Geoff Dunning stated prices for diesel in particularly have risen by 43 per cent in the last five years and this has placed a heavy burden on the finances of those operating in the logistics sector.

He commented: "We are greatly encouraged that the OFT has recognised the concerns of the haulage industry and the general public and is preparing to take action."

Mr Dunning added that the recent spike in prices is no doubt having a detrimental impact on the UK's economic recovery.

Next month, TV personality and supporter of lower fuel prices in the UK Quentin Willson is set to address members of the RHA at the organisation's Annual Lunch in London.

The event will be held at the Grand Connaught Rooms on October 2nd and will highlight a number of key issues facing the haulage sector over the coming months.
