Van Insurance - Used van values down in February

Used van sales values in the UK fell last month following a positive month of gains in January, new figures have shown.

Data from BCA's monthly Commercial Pulse revealed a 4.7 per cent drop in the average value of used light commercial vehicles in February 2012 to £4,272 - the equivalent of £211.

Duncan Ward, BCA's general manager for commercial vehicles, commented: "This is the second year running that we have seen values decline in February following a strong January performance."

However, he added that values remain in a much stronger position than they did at this time last year, despite the fact the average age of used vehicles has risen at the time of sale and an annual rise in average mileage of eight percent, which bodes well for the sector.

The news follows last month's announcement by the Department for Transport of the extension of its Plug-In Car Grant.

Discounts of up to £8,000 are being offered by the government, enabling individuals buying electric vans to receive 20 per cent off the cost of purchase for these vehicles.
