The Bentley 3.5 litre story

The Bentley 3½ Litre was originally launched in September 1933 and was the first new Bentley model following the brand’s sale to Rolls-Royce in 1931.

Bentleys during this period were known as Derby Bentleys, as a result of having been built in the Rolls Royce factory in Derby. (Those from the previous era were know, arguably unglamorously, as Cricklewood Bentleys).

The cars kept the iconic curved radiator shape which were a hallmark of earlier Bentley models, but in all other ways looked like Rolls-Royces. 

When launched, the Bentley 3½ Litre cost around a significant £1,500 putting it well beyond the reach of most people.

The Bentley 3.5 litre’s style and exclusivity proved popular and over 70% of the cars built between 1933 and 1939 were said to have still been in existence 70 years later.
