Insulation is a must for all homes. The Energy Saving Trust recommends that insulating your loft and wall cavities could lead to savings of £240 a year.

Beware of frozen pipes

When temperatures plummet, the water in your pipes can freeze and expand, leading to burst pipes and extensive water damage to your home.

This can be prevented by insulating them, especially pipes by windows and doors, any exposed pipes that you spot should be insulated.

If you find a pipe that is blocked, salt water can be used to unblock it.

Exterior

It’s just as important to often check the exterior of your house as the interior. Throughout the year, dirt, leaves and all sorts of unwanted junk can fall into your guttering and drains leading to blockages, especially after the Autumn months. So it’s imperative to clear your drains and guttering once in a while.

You should also check for running water along the sides of your home, as this could lead to damp building up around your home.
