Brits 'opt for driving holidays'

Motorists with modified cars who are choosing to take a driving holiday this year in order to cut costs and avoid travel stress are not alone, if a poll by AA Personal Loans is anything to go by.

According to a study by the group, nearly 12 million people from the UK are intending to take a driving holiday this summer.

Almost half of Brits are planning to spend at least one of their holidays in the UK, with 75 per cent saying they plan to take trips in the car in order to cut costs and avoid the stress of flying.

Mark Huggins, head of AA Personal Loans, said despite the rising prices at the pumps there are a number of ways to cut fuel consumption costs when you hit the road.

He advised drivers to "give the car a check over, make sure your tyre pressure is correct for the load you are carrying, stick to speed limits and use your air-conditioning sparingly".

Last week, the Institute of Advanced Motorists warned motorists heading across the Channel it is now compulsory to carry a reflective jacket in your vehicle while in France.
