Drink driver numbers lower in Devon and Cornwall

The number of people caught drink driving in Devon and Cornwall over the 2007-08 festive period was lower than the previous year's figure.

Police have released data showing that 276 motorists in the region were found to be above the legal blood alcohol limit - a drop of 59 drivers on the previous year's figures and potentially good news for drivers looking to keep their modified car insurance premiums intact.

Officers aimed to reduce the number of people potentially risking a modified car insurance claim by being intoxicated at the wheel through their Think Safe, Drink Safe campaign, the Express and Echo reports.

"It is pleasing that there has been a big drop in the number of people being caught, particularly as we carried out more breath tests," commented Inspector Richard Pryce, from the force's road policing unit.

Meanwhile, the Association of Chief Police Officers recently revealed that almost 2,000 fewer motorists were caught over the limit last festive season.
