Festival goers get car insurance advice

Modified car insurance holders who are tempted to take their beloved motor to a festival this summer are among those who have been offered advice by the RAC.

The organisation has alerted drivers to the fact that if they want their friends to share the driving with them, they will need to contact their insurance provider first.

"If they know they are going to want one of their friends to drive ... they need to call their insurer and add that person on as a named driver of the vehicle. That way the person will be fully covered," said Erik Nelson, spokesperson for the RAC.

Mr Nelson added that drivers who are fully comprehensively insured need also be careful, as if they drive another person's car they are only covered for third party insurance.

The spokesperson also called on drivers to understand the dangers of drug and drink-driving whether they are "at a festival or [their] friend's house".
