Jaguar E-Type cavalcade to celebrate car's 50th birthday

Classic car policy holders may be among those celebrating the upcoming 50th birthday of the Jaguar E-Type by joining a cavalcade to this year's Motorexpo.

The convoy of vehicles – which will travel to Britain's biggest free motor show on June 6th – is expected to stretch to almost half a mile long and will be accompanied by a police escort along a 10-mile route from central London to the exhibition's venue in Canary Wharf.

Taking in famed landmarks, such as the Tower of London, Trafalgar Square and The Mall, the procession of cars will also be headed up by a team of professional cyclists – including former Formula One champion Nigel Mansell - representing UK Youth, the 2011 Motorexpo's chosen charity.

Graeme Carver, chief executive officer of the event, said: "The cavalcade will be a fitting tribute to a truly iconic car in its 50th anniversary year. We’re thrilled that Motorexpo will be the destination for the many cherished E-Types that will make the journey across London."

Additionally, in celebration of the iconic vehicle's 50th anniversary, Royal Mail will be releasing a limited-edition set of stamps featuring various close-ups of the car in all its glory.
