Jaguar E-type convoy marks classic car's 50th anniversary

A convoy of Jaguar E-types has travelled through London this week in order to mark the 50th anniversary of the classic car going on sale for the first time.

Organised by the Jaguar Drivers' Club, the event saw 50 privately-owned vehicles journeying through the capital en route to the 2011 Motorexpo in Canary Wharf, five decades after the model's debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show.

Ex-Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell and a team of professional cyclists led the convoy, which travelled past Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square before going on display at Motorexpo.

The Jaguar E-type has won significant acclaim during its 50-year history and was notable at the time of its launch for its innovative engineering and top speed of 150 mph.

Earlier this year, it was honoured by industry publication Autocar as the greatest road test it has ever conducted, out of more than 5,000.
