History of Lamborghini

Lamborghini was created in the early 1960s as a sports car to rival Ferrari. The idea for the car came from Ferruccio Lamborghini who already owned a tractor factory but wanted to create a sports car brand in the mould of the bull and so it was that the 350T Lamborghini was unveiled within a relatively short space of time at the Turin Auto Show in 1963.

Lamborghini soon became synonymous as a manufacturer that produced cars known for their performance but also their comfort. Unlike other manufacturers, Lamborghini concentrated on producing cars for the consumer market rather than the racing circuit.

But it was in the late 1960s with the creation of the 400T and the Mitura cars, that Lamborghini really took off – both sports cars with dynamic features combined with great performance became highly popular across the globe.

The 1970s, however, were not successful for the company with the decade's economic downturn leading to bankruptcy by the end of the decade.

The company picked up again in the late 1980s with the creation of Diablo which became one of the most prominent and sought after sports vehicles of all time. The Diablo carried on the Lamborghini tradition of naming vehicles after famous Spanish fighting bulls. It was also the first Lamborghini to hit speeds of over 200 mph. Its predecessor the Countach also helped to re-establish the Lamborghini name by introducing the famous scissor door style which has become synonymous with the brand ever since. Lamborghini also became a F1 engine supplier between 1989 and 1993 which further aided its reimagining in the minds of sports car enthusiasts.

From the 1990s Lamborghini put its sometimes tumultuous past behind it to go from strength to strength. The Diablo continued to be a formidable performer in terms of both sports car performance and showroom sales. Its successor, the 2001 Murcelago was produced as a production car but also had many popular concept versions. This was swiftly followed by the Gallardo in 2003 which was designed to be a supreme performance car that fits a variety of different driver types and driver styles.

The most recent Lamborghini model, the Huracan was released in 2014 , designed to exemplify a quality, luxury and fast sports car for the modern era.
